Album Preview: Julian Casablancas + The Voidz

I didn’t fall in love with the past two Strokes albums the way I did with their first three, and I feel like a crumby, disloyal friend saying that, but I have a feeling  this Julian Casablancas + The Voidz album could be reeeeeeally promising.  Like, I’m not bracing myself for it to be bad like I have in the past,  IT’S GOING TO BE OKAY!  Makes me want to go to Governors Ball even more than I already do to check out the live set.
But, like…. who ARE the Voidz? Anyone else curious, like me???

Some Music for the World Traveller

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a downloadable playlist, so I finally fought off my laziness long enough to put some songs together and get one up on the blog— and now I feel like I’ve had a pretty productive day and it’s only noon, which is dangerous, because I may spend the rest of the afternoon watching terrible reality TV or napping with the dog to keep me in check.  It’s my day off and these are my life decisions…

Travelling has always been a pretty fun and relaxing thing for me, because you’re usually going somewhere new and exciting so it’s always worth the sore neck from awkward napping positions and germs from the recycled air, plus, making a playlist for the airport/flight just adds extra excitement to the whole process. So here are 15 songs inspired by travelling and the places that make me want to go to them, that hopefully you can enjoy next time you take off.

I’m ready for summer

With all the weird weather we’ve been having, this new wave of sunshine is exactly what I was waiting for.  Here is a playlist to kick start the summer, reveal the new blog design, and celebrate MUSIC BETWEEN FRIENDS being added as an Off The Grid blog for Toronto’s new mega-website THE GRID.

Katie and I have been contributing to the blog for over a year now and what started as a venue for us to share songs/bands that we were listening to among friends, is now looking like a real music blog.  Kind of?  Anyways, this playlist has some personal classics as well as new songs from bands I’m loving right now like Cults and Sleigh Bells.

Coachella 2011 Playlist

The only frustrating thing about the Coachella live webcasts is that you cannot view them in Canada after the original air date. I guess they’ll just have to live on in my memory, just like Rose’s whirlwind romance aboard the Titanic.

Here’s a playlist I whipped up for the occasion! Think of it as a slice of Coachella-shaped birthday cake. A morsel to tide you over until next year.

Download here.

Here is something that I just learned.

You can watch the Coachella performances starting at 4pm PST.  So google what PST translates to here in Canada (or wherever you’re from) and you will get a taste of the festival without having to pay a cent.

Hopefully you will be able to watch these gentlemen perform later today since they’re headlining today with Kayne West.  Hope everyone had a good weekend.
