2013 is just hours away and I’ve been trying to come up with a top album list for 2012* these past few days, but I gave up because I just haven’t given enough albums the time and devotion it takes to name them “best of” so INSTEAD, I went the song route, because that is a safer place for me. SO, to christen the end of the year I’ve decided to bundle 12 of my favourites song and basically make myself a personal 2012 soundtrack that I hope you can enjoy as much as I have. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year!
* If I were to give you three albums that I enjoy every second of whenever I put them on I would go with: 1-Channel Orange (worth the hype– times a bajillion) 2-Happy to You and 3-Coexist.
01 Reunion - The xx
02 Money Trees (feat. Jay Rock) - Kendrick Lamar
03 Velvet Elvis - Alex Winston
04 Rosie Oh - Animal Collective
05 Vase - Miike Snow
06 Radio - Lana Del Rey
07 Argonauts - Hospitality
08 Half Gate - Grizzly Bear
09 Disparate Youth - Santigold
10 Ugly Needs - Miniature Tigers
11 Undone - Luke Lalonde
12 Crack Rock - Frank Ocean
These tracks aren’t all particularly new, but who wants to listen to cutting edge indie when you can blare your pre-loved jams at the cottage and break out in a flash mob of karaoke with your friends and/or family. Here is a break down of some of the music I will be bringing up North this weekend:
OMC – How Bizarre This is my face whenever this song comes on. This is my face when I’m annoyed with WordPress because the quirky song I want to post can’t be uploaded straight from my iTunes and I have to use a youtube version…
Tanlines – RealLife Tanlines is from Brooklyn, but this song sounds more “tropical island” than “New York City” to me
Santigold – This Isn’t Our Parade
I couldn’t find a better version of this song (sorry) hopefully it will motivate you to buy the album to get the full effect because it’s worth it.
tUnE-yArDs – Powa
Makes me want to sit back in a Muskoka chair.
ArcadeFire– Month of May
Because it’s the May 2-4 long weekend — get it?
Go….and listen to this song… by Santigold and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I like the idea of this pairing, and when I saw that they collaborated on this song my nerdy initial response was: ‘I wonder if they’re friends in real life?’ (because the inner geek in me hopes so). I look forward to listening to new music from either or both of these ladies. Apparently Q-tip helped produce the song as well. Click below to have a listen.
