Dirty Projectors @ Opera House + Caribou/Born Ruffians @ LOLA (Free!)

Last night, I had the pleasure of seeing the talented and entertaining Dirty Projectors perform at Opera House from three feet away from Angel Deradoorian’s feet. THEN, Owen Pallett, my all-time favourite musician, appeared from off-stage to accompany the band for the song Two Doves (which just so happens to be my favourite Dirty Projectors song). Oh, and I happened to be standing right beside Gentleman Reg the entire time.

Tomorrow, I’m going to see Born Ruffians at LOLA (London Ontario Live Arts), a free four-day downtown concert planted in London, Ontario. There are going to be a ton of experimental art installations (including some stuff by the one-and-only Yoko Ono!).

On Saturday, Caribou is playing for free at LOLA too (I will obviously be going to this as well). Land of Talk and Zeus are also going to be playing, among many other awesome bands. Between concerts, I’ll be lounging on the private beach owned by the aunt of my dear friend Maria.

    Yep, I feel lucky.

    One Last Look (MBF Playlist)

With the fall weather we’ve been having here in Canada, it’s hard to remember what summer really felt like. I hope these songs will help conjure you back the grains of the beach, the best shady spot under your tree, the folds of your picnic blanket, and the sweaty leather of your bike seat as you pedal to the convenience store for penny candy and slushies. Take one last look at summer 2010.

    August 2010

Welcome to August everyone! Warm weather, long weekends, and (for me at least) birthdays.  I intentionally put a song with some birthday lyrics in there just for me, but the rest of the songs are a mix of older and new.  It’s basically a mash-up of what I wanted to listen to in the car/at work for the rest of this glorious month — so I hope that  you’ll like it too.  Enjoy.
