Welcome to August everyone! Warm weather, long weekends, and (for me at least) birthdays. I intentionally put a song with some birthday lyrics in there just for me, but the rest of the songs are a mix of older and new. It’s basically a mash-up of what I wanted to listen to in the car/at work for the rest of this glorious month — so I hope that you’ll like it too. Enjoy.

Alright, no more family nostalgia, here are a few songs currently on repeat from my playlist:
Joanna Newsom- Good Intentions Paving Company
Now I guess me and Joanna Newsom have a bit of a history, I listened to a song of hers a few years ago, and didn’t like it because it was very harp heavy – for those of you who don’t know, Joanna Newsom is a popular harpist (I know– 1802 called, they want their instrument back) but this song is super upbeat and fun. I sing the “step ball chain and a pirouette” part in my head all day at work and I don’t mind one bit.
Caribou- Leave House
There are a few standouts on this CD– Odessa, Lalibela and the ending track Jamelia (Don’t ask where he got the inspiration for these song titles, cause I’ve got nothing), but this one is my favourite of the moment.
Keepaway- 5 Rings
This is another EP I’ve been listening to a lot, they have an Animal Collective vibe- not a bad band to be compared with.
Hard Mix- King of the Stars
This was a random find from Hype (I usually just let the latest page play as my radio around the house). But, I’ve been listening to his myspace and I’m liking it quite a bit.
And I guess I will cap this post off with my favourite band: Broken Social Scene. There is something about the way this band makes and plays music that just makes me happy and I can’t wait to hear this whole album.
