Sunday Morning Folk Fix – Praline Country by Heyward Howkins

Today I’m coated in the kind of grey drizzle which means I can forget about drying off, because a layer of sticky mist is just going to wet everything all down again. I’m going to need a shower just to warm my bones.

Heyward Howkins of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania makes music for days like today. Sounding a bit like a lo-fi Andrew Bird circa Armchair Apocrypha, or Damien Jurado circa Saint Bartlett, Heyward is having one hell of a productive year, with his new single Praline Country riding the coattails of his debut album, The Hale & Hearty (released July 2012, stream it here).

His list of peers and co-conspirators is long (a founding member of The Silver Ages, a Philadelphia-based choral group comprised of members of Windsor for the Derby, The Capitol Years, National Eye, The War on Drugs, Buried Beds, Dr.Dog, Like Moving Insects, The Spinto Band, The Trouble With Sweeney, Fan of Friends, Mitch Fiction, and more). With such a storied past and promising future, one looks forward to hearing more of what Heyward’s upcoming album will bring.

I feel lucky to share his beautiful new single.

Good people making good music

Hey guys, here are some great musicians that I think you should check out. Now it’s time for me to take off my weekend clothes (flannel, jeans, and cherry red Keds), layer myself in office-appropriate pastels & bows, and wait until next weekend to indulge in such luxuries as new music.

Have a great week!
