Generationals Releases New Album Teaser Vid

We love New Orleans indie-rock outfit Generationals. They’ve released three fun albums over the last few years, including Con Law (2009), Actor-Caster (2011) and Heza (2013). Today, they announced the release of their untitled fourth album which will most likely be put out by Park the Van.

Check out the brand new album teaser below as well as some of my favourite tracks from previous albums.

Sasha’s Favourite Songs of 2013

Here are my top 15 songs of 2013! I don’t get a chance to listen to everything that comes out each year, so if you have any musical gems that I’ve left out to share, please leave them in the comment section below (our e-mail inbox overwhelms me sometimes). I’d love to take a listen.  I’m also looking forward to seeing Katie’s picks (since I won’t let myself forget that she posted about Tame Impala way before I took a I listen) for some more stuff to fill my music collection with.  Enjoy!

It’s my 25th birthday. Here are my favourite 25 songs of 2013!

25ohno

i’ll never be this kewt again

In no particular order, here are my favourite 25 tracks from 2013. You may have heard some of them on my radio show or seen them featured on the blog. These songs make me so happy to belong to the musical community of the Y generation – such wonderfully multi-faceted, dynamic, creative, hardworking individuals who deserve so much credit for what they’ve accomplished with limited resources and heavy competition. It’s so easy to sit back and press play and make a judgement call about a track without thinking about the hours of songwriting, recording, mixing, merchandising, marketing, social media maintenance, negotiations, legalities, and frugalities associated with the entire process. I’m guilty of doing that all the time. Judging art is a by-product of cultural over-saturation – there’s so much creative content available on the internet that music consumers are required to flip through files quickly as per our taste preferences to see what we want to sink our teeth into. Sometimes great tracks can pass you by.

It’s incredible to think that the music we listen to at vulnerable moments translates into an immeasurable, significant impact on the person you grow up to become. Thank god for cool roommates, good friends, and weird boyfriends who turned me onto new bands when I was in the midst of post-teenage angst and university study sessions. All of these tracks are all a part of me – they’re my birthday gift to you, dear reader. If you find a new favourite track, that will make me the happiest birthday girl in the world.

Another TGIF Playlist: Music for the Long Weekend!

Here is what I’ll be listening to this long weekend, after I wake up at noon and shove my face with costco sized portions of mini-eggs.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.

GenerationalsU Say It 2

A really upbeat and sweet song– good album too, and you can download the band’s free EP, Medium Rarities here if you want to hear more.

Miike Snow feat. Lykke LiBlack Tin Box

Miike Snow’s new album Happy to You, is a must purchase/listen for me.  It like the perfect medley of music/songs for the summer– I haven’t been bored with it yet since I got it and if I were introducing someone to the album for the first time I’d probably get them to listen to: Vase, Paddling Out, and Archipelago next.

Sleigh Bells You Lost Me

My favourite on this album is You Lost Me, but I wasn’t able to find a hostable version of it– you can download it from this link and take a listen, though.  This album was a little less bad ass then Treats in my opinion, but still a really good follow-up to grab if you liked their first.

HospitalityBetty Wang

I try to be an adult, and not giggle after reading the name of this song out loud, but I’ll forever be an adult-child and I’m okay with that. This is another newer album I’ve been listening to a lot and really like. Another favourite on the album (Katie played it on her show before) is Friends of Friends:

Hot SugarThe Seagull

Warning: this is instrumental — but you can check out the entire album from the player– more music to add to my Summer Jam 2012 mix.

Wise Blood to all the girls who have trusted me

One of the strangest videos, just saying.

I’ve also been listening to a lot of Black Keys and Arctic Monkeys since seeing them at the ACC — not usually my favourite concert venue– but we had GA tickets and had spots so close to the stage I could have backhandedly brushed Dan Auerbach’s beard if I wanted to.   One of the best concerts I’ve been to in a while, so the afterglow hasn’t worn off and both bands have been in heavy rotation.  Click HERE and HERE for my favourites to listen to right now from each band.
