TGIF Playlist: March 14, 2014

I think this is one TGIF Playlist, where I liked all the songs so much I didn’t know what order to put them in… If this is the only problem I ever have in my life, I’ll be golden. Hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy a song or two on this bad boy.

  • The singing in the intro alone gets me, then CATHEDRALS breaks into what reminds me of an electronic version of the intro to Where Is My Mind? by The Pixies
  • You know a song is good when we both post about it. LOWELL is banging out some hits, their other release Cloud 69 is also super catchy, great Toronto music.
  • Another Converse, three artists, one song collaboration. Wasn’t sure how this threesome would do, but they included a children’s choir… so you can’t lose.
  • If you haven’t checked out the Arcade Fire, Suburbs cover Mr. Little Jeans did, please do…
  • New Little Dragon *raises the roof*
  • This was on my February Soundcloud playlist, but that month went by so quick I didn’t post it, #noregrets though because here it is! Another remix where I think I like the remix more than the original.

Happy New Year!

2013 is just hours away and I’ve been trying to come up with a top album list for 2012* these past few days, but I gave up because I just haven’t given enough albums the time and devotion it takes to name them “best of” so INSTEAD, I went the song route, because that is a safer place for me.  SO, to christen the end of the year I’ve decided to bundle 12 of my favourites song and basically make myself a personal 2012 soundtrack that I hope you can enjoy as much as I have. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year!

* If I were to give you three albums that I enjoy every second of whenever I put them on I would go with: 1-Channel Orange (worth the hype– times a bajillion) 2-Happy to You and 3-Coexist.

2 New Songs that do Music Sampling Justice.

These two songs definitely do music sampling well and are both great tracks to add to your Saturday Night  ” A dee dee da da da Playlists”.

Azealia Banks – Esta Noche

NSFW lyrics — but would you expect anything else from Azealia Banks?  Sampling a hit from the 90s (or maybe borderline 2000s?) Montell Jordan’s Get it on Tonight.  A song I used to play and sing inappropriately around the house as a tween because I didn’t understand what it was really about.

Frank Ocean – Super Rich Kids (feat. Earl Sweatshirt)

I feel like everyone needs to go purchase Channel Orange because it is just that good of an album, in every way  and incredibly well written — I couldn’t say enough good things and I haven’t stopped listening to it since I got my hands on it.   The intro to Super Rich Kids is a clear Benny and the Jets sample, but then Frank Ocean goes on to lyrically reference another hit by Mary J. Blige — not her Burger King commercial but the 90s hit, Real Love. Go get the album or stream it free here and hear what I’m talking about and enjoy!
