T-R-¡-☾-K-S // T-R-E-▲-✞-S Halloween mixtape

Hey there friends, it’s H-A-L-L-O-W-E-E-N

I’m sure you’ll agree that THIS IS THE SPOOKIEST SONG IN THE WORLD!!!!!!

But in case you’re feeling greedy, here’s a grab bag of thirteen treats, from soft folk to glitchy electronic to brassy experimental to sloppy punk. All stuffed into a jack-o’-lantern to pick over the next few weeks until even the licorice track has a few plays. My personal faves of this mix are Deerhoof, Timber Timbre, St. Vincent, and Devendra Banhart.

Dr. Dog captures that summer party feeling

I just came home from my first drinking party of the summer and I feel drowsy and happy and full of amicability for my friends. Two of them set up an elaborate DJ show with a silent-film projection (foreign horror films from the ’20s), strobe lights, a lit-up sign with their DJ names, and costumes. We all went drunk-swimming and ate hamburgers, corn on the cob, and those little powdered donuts. Then we all cuddled on the couch in candlelight until it was time to leave.

Now, all my brain can do is play Shadow People by Dr. Dog over and over because it’s the perfect descriptor to how I feel right now.
