It’s the weekend and I have internet access back. Let’s celebrate. These are just a few of the songs that are currently on my weekend playlist:
Pnau – With You Forever
If you’re going through some MGMT withdrawal this song would be a good temporary fix.
Royal Bangs – Grass Helmet
The thing I like most about this song–the drums, so it’s no surprise this band was signed by Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney.
Beastie Boys – Lee Majors Come Again
If you can’t appreciate the Beastie Boys for how catchy and clever their lyrics are, at least try to remember that they make some of the most awesomely ridiculous music videos of all time (my personal favourite).
Lykke Li – I Don’t Mind (Jump on it) Lykke Li may be the master of bringing listeners to tears with her sappy lyrics and pretty voice, but I like her best when she does these fun dance songs.
That’s all I’ve got for now. Hope everyone has a good weekend!
It isn’t July just yet, but I wanted to get a head start since I will be out of the country come Canada Day (how ironic). I am going on an exciting adventure to Italy and Greece for the whole month and may not get a chance to post as much. So, I figured a nostalgic/loosely themed playlist could be a second-rate consolation prize.
I tried to fit all my recent favourites on this playlist (Foster the People, Wild Nothing etc.) as well as some consistent favourites. So on that note, here is my parting gift for the month if I don’t get an opportunity to post what I’m listening to.
01 Send Me On My Way - Rusted Roots
02 Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win - Beastie Boys ft. Santogold
03 Home - LCD Soundsystems
04 Call It What You Want - Foster the People
05 Gamme Ray - Beck
06 Churches Under The Stairs - BSS presents...Brendan Canning
07 Summer Holiday - Wild Nothing
08 Abducted - Cults
09 Set 'em Free pt.1 - Akron/Family
10 Speaking In Tongues - Arcade Fire ft. David Byrne
11 Like I Needed - Rogue Wave
12 Minnesota, WI - Bon Iver
13 When I Come Home - The Drums
14 Wrapped Up In Books - Belle & Sebastian
I remember being younger and my summer goal was to be able to rap Intergalactic in its entirety. I succeeded and no one cared (but me). I still remember chunks of the lyrics and pretending I can rap via karaoke-ing rap music is just the most rewarding/fun thing ever. If you don’t believe me you can catch Danny McBride, Seth Rogan and Elijah Wood lipsyncing to the Beastie Boys new song. Here is a link to the incredible video of Fight For Your Right – Revisited and here (down below) are things that you will see in this video:
– Will Arnett getting pegged with a beer can
– Will Ferrell playing the cowbell
– A Delorean
– A DANCE CONTEST
– A pee fight? and finally
– Police brutality
Here is also another song from their new album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two.
