This show goes out to everyone who takes the time to ask when my show will be back on the air :)

This particular playlist is now one of my favourites of 2014 – everything works really well together. My brain clearly melted when I was reading back the song titles after Ocean Death by Baths played (I don’t even know what I’m saying at that point – maybe “dares”?), but I have a cold + sore throat this week, so we’ll have to live with imperfection. Enjoy the podcast!

MP3: Miasma – Baths (brand new single + tour)

For any aspiring Magic The Gathering players out there, this card is worth a whopping $0.50!!!

For any aspiring Magic The Gathering players out there, this card is worth a whopping $0.50!!!

Twenty-three year old electronic wunderkind Baths has just released a brand new single called Miasma Sky and a whack of tour dates, including June 9th at Horseshoe Tavern.

I loved the eerie, skeletal hummings of his first record Cerulean (2010, Anticon) and have high hopes for this new record, which is rumoured to be a bit more “pop and hi-fi,” but with darker lyrics inspired by a recent battle with an e. coli infection (??? lol wut)

For those of you who don’t practice disease epidemiology in your spare time, miasma was a popular theory held by medieval scientists who believed that pandemics such as The Black Death were caused by sickened air (nasty vapours, y’all) emitted by rotting corpses.

Ambient, experimental, and weird: Baths’ new album Cerulean

So many things are weird but good: red bean ice cream, your mom…

Another thing:

Cerulean by LA-based Will Wiesenfeld’s project Baths.

It’s an album that was introduced to me by my favourite CFMU music director, Emma. Classified as glitch-hop electronic indie, it’s definitely something that needs to be digested to fully appreciate.

My favourite tracks off this album are <3, Aminals, You’re My Excuse to Travel, and Rafting Starlit Everglades.

RIYL: Animal Collective (check out You’re My Excuse to Travel) or Bibio (check out Plea).
