I was browsing in Rotate This today and came across a name I didn’t recognize in the new releases: Dawn of Midi. When I don’t know a band name, and this is especially true when I’m looking at ambient or electronic music, I use my gut feeling to sense out whether I’ll like it.
Dawn of Midi is a Brooklyn-based three-piece that makes cinematic, spacious, minimalist ambient music. Comprised of Qasim Naqvi on drums, Aakaash Israni on bass, and Amino Belyamani on piano, Dysnomia is a live-recorded album that carries a sense of tension and unresolved aggression. Almost reminds me of Gong without the vocals.
