I’ve heard some mixed emotions about Relfektor, but I think this song alone has now solidified my love for the album.
Running just under 7 minutes, It’s Never Over (Oh Orpheus) is a song I’m dreaming of hearing live — busting a move one second, then in a full on emotional sing along with the crowd the next, I can even see some clapping or arm waving in there.
Arcade Fire is a master at creating epic music (think Intervention) and after being a total nerd I Googled the song lyrics (link here) and I think It’s Never Over (Oh Orpheus) is a million times more beautiful now. I guess Greek mythology is an ongoing theme within the album, I suggest reading the full breakdown, but for a quick summary: Orpheus is a musician who is trying to rescue his wife Eurydice (Arcade Fire also have a song Awful Sound (Oh Eurydice) on this album) back to life with his majestic skills, under the condition that he can’t look back at her on their ascend from the underworld… but he can’t resist :S and she goes back. #TRAGIC
Now I just have to hope my friends who read the blog miss this information so I can impress them with it next time we hang out…
