I’m going to be counting down my favourite albums of the year in an attempt to also count down the last days of 2011. Since I missed yesterday I’ll be posting 9 & 10 today followed by 8, 7, 6 and so on, you know how countdowns work. I’ll be doing this until New Years Eve, and then I’ll recap the list in the New Year, and hopefully include a playlist with that post.
Okay let’s do it, to it.
#9 – Florence and the Machine – Ceremonials (Deluxe Edition)
Not only did Ceremonials make my Top Albums of the Year list, but Florence Welch is quickly rising in rank on my crushable female musician list. She has such a unique voice and the album has this modern-quirky-church-choir vibe that reminds me at times of Arcade Fire’s Neon Bible. I only mention the Deluxe Edition because it includes a few acoustic tracks that I love, but the standard album is awesome with or without those and if you haven’t heard her cover Drake and Rihanna’s Take Care, do yourself a favour and click the link.
Florence and the Machine – Only If For A Night
#10 – Arctic Monkeys – Suck it and See
I’m like a proud mother in the fact that this band can do no wrong with me. They’re so consistent and catchy. There’s a reason they sell out their shows when they come to Toronto, they’re great live as well. This album didn’t blow my mind, but it may be one of my top played this past year, and a great summer release.
