One of my favourite music videos is for Frontier Psychiatrist by The Avalanches. It’s creepy, entertaining, and makes a story out of the 37 spoken word samples used to create the song. Once you watch it, I’m sure you’ll have a favourite character; I really like the ghost choir and Infomercial Woman.
So the question that everyone’s been asking is: “are The Avalanches ever going to make another album?!” They haven’t put out anything since their highly successful album Since I Left You was released in 2000. It’s been 10 years since that; the band roster has changed, they claim to have changed their sound, and various tantalizing updates have flitted through the band’s Myspace and Website pages, such as this cryptic and poorly worded message: “[regarding the new album]… its so fuckin party you will die… and while there is still no accurate estimated time of arrival, were sure you’re gonna love it when it arrives…”
There’s been talk of problems with sample copyright clearance, (damn you, copyright!) which would undoubtedly setback release. But for half a decade? C’MON GUYS. Hopefully the second album will be released before the end of this year, or I don’t know what I’ll do. Probably “pour juice on my chin…”
