Sasha’s Favourite Albums of 2011- ENTIRE LIST

#1 - Jay Z & Kanye West - Watch the Throne

I’m sure this one came a shocker (…not).  Even though a bunch of the songs act as advertisements, the quality of this album is hard to match, and it was an easy pick as favourite of the year.  You would have to be living under a rock to not have heard at least one of Watch the Throne’s singles/songs, and you would have to be hit by that rock upside the head to not enjoy it… And on that note I hope everyone has a great New Years Eve, I’d be willing to bet you will be hearing this song at least once (or 3 times like their encores on this tour).  Enjoy!

#3 - Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver

#4 - Caveman – CoCo Beware

Sasha’s Favourite Albums of 2011 Countdown: #2

# 2 - MetronomyThe English Riviera

Super-catchy, British electronic music.  There is not a song I’m not excited to hear on this album, and I will probably listen to it all day now that I’ve mentioned it.  Metronomy will also be coming to Toronto April 2nd to play the Hoxton.  Check them out.

Indie-licious Podcast! July 19th 2011

For those of you who may have forgotten, I do a weekly radio show on CFMU on Tuesdays from 5-6pm called Indie-licious. I finished tomorrow’s show early, so check it out! I was in a bit of a goofy mood, as you will see when you listen to me speak… in a variety of character voices…

My Summer Anthem: Metronomy’s The Look

After Sasha announced back in March that Foster The People’s Pumped Up Kicks would be her 2011 summer jam, I decided to find my own personal summer tune to play beach volleyball and eat kilos of ice cream to.

When I stumbled across The Look by London/Brighton four-piece Metronomy, I knew it was the perfect choice. The simplistic, catchy, and utterly singable lyrics are mondegreen-proof and the awesome synth line makes me want to whip out my keyboard and play along.

We didn’t read it in a big book
And now we’re giving you the look, look
Just remember how we shook, shook
And all the things we took, took

It takes some pretty crafty musical hooks to mask lyrics as basic as these.

Although they’ve been active on the UK electronic scene since 1999, they only recently came to my attention after the release of The English Rivers last month. The Look is the 4th track off the 11-track album on Because Music (the same label that signed Klaxons, Justice, and Charlotte Gainsbourg). It got pretty swell reviews from The Guardian and NME, which always equals great exposure.

Check out the vid for some creepy, stop-motion seagull action. (And then grab the mp3 below!)

I wish I was cool as the hipster bassist.

      Not Made For Love

I’m finally returning to the site and this song Not Made For Love by Metronomy makes me wish I were back in the sun. I used to study to this band a lot when I was in school.
      Memories.

Metronomy – Not Made For Love (ALALAL REMIX)

I will try my best to post a playlist soon-ish but Katie did such an awesome job with hers I don’t see the rush.

      August 2010

Welcome to August everyone! Warm weather, long weekends, and (for me at least) birthdays.  I intentionally put a song with some birthday lyrics in there just for me, but the rest of the songs are a mix of older and new.  It’s basically a mash-up of what I wanted to listen to in the car/at work for the rest of this glorious month — so I hope that  you’ll like it too.  Enjoy.
